Aachen stands for tradition and innovation – as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and innovative city of science, it is a cradle for bright minds and future perspectives. The "Oecher People" project implements this focus by bringing personalities from science, research, trade, crafts, and the digital economy to life in an augmented reality exhibition and via an app.
One of these personalities is Dr. Alexander Engels, CEO of aiXbrain GmbH.
As a founding member of the AI Alliance Aachen and a driver of smart, industrial AI solutions, his name stands for building bridges between research and practical application. Since the founding of aiXbrain, Dr. Alexander Engels has been contributing his expertise in mathematics, computer science, and electrical engineering to equip medium-sized companies for the challenges of digital transformation.
With projects such as MachineGPT and the AI framework Dataray®, the aiXbrain team demonstrates how artificial intelligence can turn machines into partners and problem solvers – from predictive maintenance to smart production processes.
AI made in Aachen: Dr. Alexander Engels as an "Oecher People"
What makes someone an "Oecher People"?
Networking: "Oecher People" are not lone wolves. They rely on networks, alliances, and exchanges between research, business, and society. With the AI Alliance Aachen and the strong AI cluster, innovative solutions are tested and put into practice.
Sustainable innovation: Successful AI projects such as the collaborations between aiXbrain, RWTH Aachen University, and regional companies show that future technologies are not only conceived here, but also made.
Personal passion: Dr. Alexander Engels exemplifies the "Oecher Spirit": the urge to make complex things understandable, to bridge the gap between technology and people, and to act as a "translator" to make innovative technologies accessible to industry.
The campaign: Interaction with augmented reality
The portraits can be found everywhere, both now and in the future, not only at events on roll-ups, but also throughout the city of Aachen on advertising columns and billboards.
The key, however, is the special "Oecher People" app, which uses augmented reality to bring the printed portraits of Aachen personalities to life through the camera of a smartphone. This allows you to be taken on a special journey through the stories and biographies of the "Oecher People."
